Jen Balane, who performs as Jenabeh, is a trans Filipina vocalist, performer and songwriter. She has sung all her life, beginning in church in the Philippines, long before she had the words to describe who she was. Music was her first love and remains the place where she feels most herself. In September 2024, she moved to Warsaw to pursue a Master’s degree in Business Management, and she brought her voice with her.
Wherever she has landed, she has found or built her own stage: unpaid sets at queer bars in Sydney, Australia, spontaneous jams in Central and Eastern Europe, and in Warsaw, performances at La Pose and several NGO-sponsored community events. Her songs explore migration, identity, and self-acceptance.
Opportunities for trans women performers are rare, but she keeps showing up. For her, Art is political, representation matters and trans people deserve to be seen and heard.
