Residencies, scholarships, grants

We present selected institutions that organise residencies and research trips, offer scholarships, and support artistic activities in other ways. Many of the programmes listed are open to artists from outside the European Union and to people with a migrant background.

Good to know: applying for funding often requires confirmation/a letter of intent from a partner institution or an invitation. Preparations for a particular project should begin 3–6 months in advance. Portfolios are often accepted in English.

Adam Mickiewicz Institute – supports international cultural exchange and cooperation, mainly for people of Polish origin. It also offers funding for migrant artists working in groups with Polish artists.

National Centre for Culture Poland – this state institution works to develop culture in Poland. The Centre runs various programmes and projects, such as Gaude Polonia (a scholarship programme for artists from Ukraine and Belarus).

Ujazdowski Castle Centre for Contemporary Art – develops, presents and promotes art in all its forms. It regularly runs open calls for residencies, workshops and programmes.

Mieroszewski Centre – initiates and runs activities addressed to the peoples of Eastern Europe, in particular Ukrainians, Belarusians, Georgians and Moldovans, with the aim of strengthening the independence of their states. The Centre’s website provides information about competitions, training programmes and available scholarships.

Culture Moves Europe – the programme supports the mobility of artists in Europe by offering travel funding. Artists who want to carry out projects and collaborate with people and institutions from other European countries should consider this programme.

Visegrad Fund – supports international cultural exchange and cooperation between Poland, the Czech Republic, Slovakia and Hungary. It provides funding for projects carried out in cooperation with partners from these countries.

Prince Claus Fund – focuses on artistic and cultural projects carried out in countries of the so-called Global South. It includes programmes related to mobility, cultural exchange and international creative cooperation.

Arts Collaboratory – creates opportunities for long-term cooperation between artists and organisations from different parts of the world. Projects based on solidarity, reciprocity and jointly developing new ways of working are particularly important.

ZKM | Center for Art and Media Karlsruhe – the institution’s programmes and projects focus on artistic collaboration combining different fields of art, science and technology. They may be of interest to artists working across disciplines.

African Culture Fund – focuses on the development of the cultural and arts sector in Africa, offering grants and opportunities to develop and carry out artistic projects. Its programmes also include international cooperation and mobility opportunities for artists.

Open Society Foundations – funds initiatives related to culture, democracy, human rights and mobility, among other areas. Selected programmes of the Foundations may be an important source of support for artists.
