Pavel Tavares is a Brazilian filmmaker and audiovisual artist known for his work with experimental documentaries and audiovisual installations. His research-based practice engages with themes of borders, migration, and temporality, often developed through international residencies and transdisciplinary collaborations. He has created works in Argentina, Russia, China, Portugal, and Poland. His filmography includes Jasy Porã, Nucas de Tarkovsky, País de Blancos, Ojo de Mar, and Diário de um Crime. Tavares was selected for Talents BAFICI, VGIK Summer School (RU), Looking China (CN), Flaherty Seminar (US), and Doclisboa (PT). He holds a BA in Audiovisual Arts (University of Buenos Aires) and a postgraduate degree in Cinema (Torcuato Di Tella University). He worked as an audiovisual archivist and taught documentary and Latin American cinema at UBA. In Europe, he collaborates with artists and institutions while also leading audiovisual workshops and community art projects focused on inclusion and intercultural dialogue with migrants, minorities, site-specific and science fiction. He is part of the artistic duo Samambaia with Natalia Lis.
